GLOSSARY OF GOLF GAMES

 

The following is intended to be only a brief summary of games that we play.  Complete rules will be found on the back of your scorecard:

 

6-6-6
A two lady event.  6 holes of Partners Best Ball; 6 holes of Alternate Shot; 6 holes of Scramble.

 

15-24-33

15 means one BB on par 5s, 24 means two BBs on par 4s and 33 means three BBs on par 3s.

 

ABCD GROUPING #1

Record three BB’s for holes # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 14, 15 &18.
Record two BBs for holes # 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16,17.

 

ABCD GROUPING #2

Record three BB’s for holes #5, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16 & 18.
Record two BB’s for holes #1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11,12,14 & 17.

 

ALTERNATE SHOT  (Partner Format)

No more than 10 stroke difference in handicaps. Pick who is to drive then alternate thru all shots thru 18 holes.

 

BEST BALL NET OF TWOSOMES - PYP

No more than 10 stroke difference in handicaps.

 

BEST BALL NET OF TWOSOMES - BLIND DRAW FOR PARTNERS

Computer will pick your partners.

 

BEAT THE PRO

Beat the “big guy” with your net score. Make sure he plays from the black tees and no “gimmies”.

 

BEST CONSECUTIVE NINE HOLES

Choose wisely. 9 holes must be in consecutive order (1-9) (2-10)

Pick your holes after you finish.

 

BINGO, BANGO, BONGO

One BB net on all par 5s, 2 BBs net on all par 4s and 3 BBs on par 3s. On back nine reverse.

 

BLIND NINE

While you are out playing, nine holes will be picked by the Pro Shop that will be used for scoring.

 

BRIDGEMAN

Record One Best Ball net for holes 1-6.…Two BB for holes 7-12 and Three BB for holes 13-18.

 

CHA-CHA-CHA

One BB on hole #1 (Cha), Two BB on hole #2 (Cha-Cha), Three BB on hole #3 (Cha-Cha-Cha).  Repeat through 18.

 

CHAPMAN SCOTCH - PYP

Both tee off then hit your partners drive and she yours. Choose the best ball and alternate until holed.

 

CRISS-CROSS (aka Mirror Image

One BB on nine holes and 2 BBs on other nine. Front and back must be mirror images. If you pick hole #1 for one BB then #10 is the same.

Decide which to designate after you have finished.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

After play is finished choose your better score:

#1 or #10
#2 or #11 
#
3 or #12 etc.

 

DICE GAME

A roll of the dice determines whose score is used.

 

DOUBLE TROUBLE

One BB on holes 1 & 2; two BBs on holes 3 & 4; one BB on holes 5 & 6; two BBs on holes 7 & 8; continue until 18 holes are finished.

 

DROP OUT SCRAMBLE

Everyone tees off. Pick the best ball. Person who hit that ball drops out and remaining 3 hit from that spot. Continue until ball is holed.

 

ECLECTIC NINE (aka Cross Country)

After play is finished choose your better score:

#1 or #10
#2 or #11 
#
3 or #12 etc.

 

FLAG TOURNAMENT

Each player is given a flag with their number of handicap strokes plus 72 (par). Plant your flag off to the side of the fairway after your last permissible stroke, comes to a stop.

 

FOUR CLUBS AND A PUTTER

Choose your favorite 4 clubs and your putter.  Leave the rest at home.

 

FOURSOMES (aka Odds and Evens)

Player A tees off on all even holes, Player B the odd holes, then alternate shots until ball is holed.

 

FOUR BALL MATCH PLAY (also known as Best Ball Match Play)

four-ball golf match consists of two teams of two golfers competing directly against each other. Each golfer plays her own ball throughout the round, so that four balls are in play. A team's number of strokes for a given hole is that of the lower scoring team member. Each hole is won by the team whose member has the lowest score on that hole, and that team is awarded a point for the hole. If the teams tie for a hole, the point for the hole is divided between the teams. At the end of the match, the team with the most points wins. We usually play a NET game.

 

FROG

Score two BBs on holes that contain any letter of FROG and one BB on holes that do not contain any of the letters.

 

GIVE ME A BREAK

Two best balls net per hole…..throw out worst 3 holes.

 

HIGH ROLLERS SCRAMBLE (ABCD)

Each player picks a number (1-4) roll dice to see who’s drive is used then true scramble format……..no handicaps.

 

IRISH EYES

Score two BB’s on any holes with the letter I in it and one BB on the others.

 

IRISH FOUR BALL

One BB of the foursome on holes 1-6 Two BB’s on holes 7-11 Three BB’s on holes 12-15 and Four BB’s on holes 16-18.

 

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM

Prior to play, players decide who is player 1 and who is player 2. Player 1's ball is used on hole #1, player 2’s ball on hole #2, both balls are used on hole #3.  Repeat through 18.

 

MAKE YOUR OWN NINE NET

After round, pick best net score from two par 3s, five par 4s and two par 5s.

 

MODIFIED STABLEFORD

Make points for your team by getting 1 pt for a net bogey; 2 pts for a net par; 3 points for a net bird; 4 pts for a net eagle & 5 pts for a net double eagle.

 

NET BEST BALL MIX

One BB of the foursome on holes 1-9. Two BBs on holes 10-17. Hole #18 uses 3 BBs.

 

NET ONES

Count net scores on all holes that BEGIN with the letters in ONES.

 

NET T’S AND F’S

Count net scores on holes beginning with T or F.

 

ODDS OR EVENS

Count either all odd holes or all the even ones.

 

PARTNER GROUPING #1

Record two BB’s for holes #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 14, 15, & 18. Record one BB on holes #6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16,17.

 

PARTNER GROUPING #2

Record two BB’s for holes # 5, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16 &18, Record one BB for holes # 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14 & 17.

 

PIGGEN

On alternate holes score best low putt, then best low gross then best low net……….repeat for 18 holes.

 

PINK BALL (aka Colored Ball - Lone Ranger
Take turns hitting the “pink ball”. At the end of the hole record net score of the pink ball along with either one or two BB’s of other 3 players.

 

ROUND ROBIN FORMAT (Match Play)

4 Individuals (or 4-2 lady teams) comprise each flight. Each individual (or each team) play the other 3 individuals (or teams) for 3 matches apiece. Each hole played is worth one point. If the hole is tied each player (or team) is awarded ½ point.  After all 3 matches have been played, the individual (or team) with the most points is declared the flight winner.  Second place is also paid. 

 

SCRAMBLE (Texas Scramble or Ambrose)
Everyone tees off, use best ball on every shot until holed.

 

SHAMBLE

Everyone tees off. Select best drive and everyone hits their own ball from that point until holed.

 

THE PUMPKIN KNOWS

Ask the pumpkin which players score will count (he will be waiting on the next tee box!)

 

TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT

Can be played a variety of ways -

Postable -Throw out 1 each 3/4/5 or choose 2 par 3s, 5 par 4s and 2 par 5s prior to play. Courses they come from are designated.
Non-postable - 1 mulligan granted on each nine.  Putts not included.

 

TRIFECTA

One BB on holes 1-3. Two BBs on holes 4-6. Three BBs on holes 7-9. Repeat on back nine.

 

TWO PERSON SCRAMBLE - PYP

Use the best drive then both hit from that point. Continue to hit the best ball until holed. 

 

WALTZ (1-2-3 AND 2-3-1) AND REVERSE WALTZ

1-2-3 Waltz - One best ball on holes 1, 4, 7, 10, 13 & 16; Two BBs on holes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14 & 17; Three BBs on holes 3, 6, 9,12,15 & 18.

 2-3-1- Waltz - One BB on holes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 & 18; Two BBs on holes 1, 4, 7, 10, 13 & 16; Three BBs on holes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14 &17.

 Reverse Waltz (3-2-1)  One BB on holes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 &18; Two BB’s on holes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14 &17;  Three BB’s on holes 1, 4, 7, 10, 13 & 16.

 

WHINERS

Throw out your worst three holes but all 18 must be posted!

 

YOURS, MINE AND OURS

1 BB on holes 1&2, 2 Balls on hole 3. Repeat through 18. Each player's ball must be used 6 times.
