Players may play a practice round any time prior, at the resident rate.  You can make a tee time two days in advance by calling.

Tournament Chair:  Bonny Wilcox

  1. The No-Frills Member/Guest Tournament in June was cancelled due to lack of participation.
  2. Prickly Pair was a success with the ladies, QCLGA, winning by 20 points.  Thanks go out to Jim Lynch for all his work on the event. Next year, the QCLGA will host.
  3. Reminder:  We agreed to discuss the Match Play situation (3 days vs two) prior to our November Annual Meeting.
  4. The two day PYP Eclectic is starting on Thursday.  Have 52 players – 26 teams which is a great turnout for August.
  5. Terri Bacon has been working with Deb Riddell and, occasionally Bonny Wilcox on tournament set up and scoring.  She will work closely with Deb during the 4 events in October and should be ready to work on her own starting in 2020.
  6. Bonny thanked Deb for working with her and the committee to coordinate the 2020 calendar of golf games and coordinator assignments during the next couple of months so we can enter them into the Golf Genius calendar prior to the beginning of the year.  Also, the 2021 calendar will be set up so we are ready to coordinate with the QCMGA prior to room reservations being required.
  7. Deb would like input from members and possibly new members to come up with some new games to incorporate into next year’s schedule.  At this time, we have 11 PYP games for next year.  However, PYP games seem to draw more participation.  Jacquie will put something in blast to encourage input from members.

Rules & Regulations:  Mary Campbell-Jones

Birdies/Ringers/Chip-Ins:  Kris Weinberg

Discussion on the bulletin board outside of restrooms.  We eliminated it because we have one in each bathroom and in the Pro Shop.  We will consider eliminating the board in the Pro Shop.  Terri receives HIO certificate and the HIO certificate is issued immediately after HIO happens.  However, the HIO pin is given at the Holiday Luncheon.

Interclub
:  Cathy Nelms

Season is over and QC came in 6th.  We had 36 players this year with13 who had never participated in Interclub before.  10 additional members have purchased team shirts.

2020 Schedule – We will not be the last club to hold the final event, we are looking at possibly May or June.  Thanks to Terri for her effort in getting information to newspaper with pictures.

Junior Golf: Jan Delcour

The Junior League girls’ golf program has been on hold for the past few months.  QCLGA has, in the past, helped the Walden High School girls’ team by donating used equipment collected from QC residents and by donating money collected in our General Meetings and through the sale of golf items at the annual QC garage sales.

This past winter after repeated email attempts to the Walden coach without results we were at a loss as to what organization we could donate to.  Our goal is to help build interest in and promote girls golf in the Green Valley/Sahuarita area.

Jan had contacted Marvol Barnard, the National President LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals who teaches golf lessons at Haven during the winter months. She is extremely busy, but is willing to discuss potential options to help our Junior League program. Marvol used to work with Haven Golf Course helping with their junior golf program, but since she spends summers in Santa Fe, she had to discontinue her efforts.  Haven no longer sponsors a youth program.

If any of our QCLGA members has suggestions please contact President Jacquie or Jan Delcour as all ideas are welcome.

Maybe we can join in the Lady Niners to get something going with them.

OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS:

Our Charity Golf Tournament will be held October 31st.  The team is assembled and will meet 8/27/19 with Lady Niners and Lady Putters.

Pace of Play – There will be discussion to try and determine why this is happening.

Discussion on QCLGA team shirts with our own logo.  Possibly holding a contest to see who can come up with the best design. This will be announced at the December meeting following further investigation with Linda Klaus.

Jacquie advised that bids are being accepted for removal of plants along Kino path to hopefully avoid an accident.

Next Board Meeting to be held October 23rd, with General Meeting on November 14th

ADJOURNMENT

Motion to Adjourn the General Meeting was made by Terri Bacon and seconded by Bonny Wilcox. Motion passed and meeting was adjourned at 4:30 P.M.

Absent: Chris Gould, Cheryl Collyer, Terri Ericson, Cathy Nelms, Jan Delcour

CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 3:00 pm by President Jacquie Owens.  A Motion to accept the Minutes of the General Meeting from February 28, 2019, as posted on the QCLGA Website was made by Bonny Wilcox and seconded by Dian Simmons.  Motion passed and Minutes were approved.

EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORTS

President:  Jacquie Owen

Jacquie received an update on the member guest event from Deb Scott. The starting budget was $2,880.17 with a closing budget of $2,856.77 for next year. There was discussion about ideas to incorporate into the next year for ticket sales, etc.   This will be revisited later this year.  Overall the event was a huge success and was right on budget. There was discussion about possibly discussing with other QC groups about sharing decorations to keep costs down for all groups.  Roz was thanked for her entertainment. Thanks should go to all ladies on the committee that made it such a success and fun.

Vice President:  Peg Avent

Peg is working on getting with Daniel to plan the lunch meeting coming up on the 23rd. Chef is willing to work with us and provide a salad and desert if we can commit to at least 20 ladies.  Due to the small group a bar will probably not be provided.

Secretary:  Dian Simmons

No report

Treasurer:  Sandi Hrovatin

There was lengthy discussion regarding the treasurer’s report, due to problems with scams and hacking in the Robson community, a unanimous vote was held by board members to notpost treasurer’s report on website. Additionally, other Quail Creek Clubs/Associations do not post their reports.  However it is important to note that anyone can obtain the full Treasurer’s Monthly Report by contacting Sandi.

Past President/Robson Challenge: Chris Gould (written report)

Three of the Robson Challenge qualifying rounds have been played.  Players have two more opportunities, on May 30th and September 5th to qualify. Remember, you only need to play two rounds to be considered when participants are selected for the November event

Tournament Chair:  Bonny Wilcox

  • President’s Cup and Round Robin Partner Match Play went well.  Next Year the President’s Cup with be a 36-hole event instead of 54 holes.
  • We need to decide what to do with the 3-day Match Play Events in 2020. Do we want to throw out alternatives (keep it a 3-day tournament, have the individuals make their own matches throughout the year, or reduce the events to one day matches) (if we give up the three days, won’t need the Tuesday from QCMGA).  Should we vote next week or wait until November meeting when more members may be present?
  • The mixer went very well and all players seem to have a good time.  Thanks to Jacquie for setting up a special area at the Grill for our after golf get together.  We had 87 players who participated.
  • Will be helping with the Memorial Tournament.
  • The 3-day match play event scheduled for this month has been cancelled due to small numbers. Maybe we should consider two partner match play events in lieu of individual.  There was lengthy discussion regarding what we will do regarding this.  This will be revisited in the future for 2020.
  • Terri Bacon will be joining the Tournament Committee and working with Deb on Tournament set up.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Handicap:  Nancy Hoppe

The clipboard in the Pro Shop is being removed, we need to promote using Email for notification.  Jacquie will put a note in the Blast regarding that. There is problems with adding new people when they pay thru AWGA.  Nancy will contact AWGA and see if they can somehow resolve the issue.

Rules & Regulations:  Mary Campbell-Jones

Mary likes the fact that rules are repeated in Blast every week.  Suggestion on demonstration for members on free relief, etc.  Difficult to find range time and person to conduct demonstration. It was decided to put rule of month in the bathrooms again.  People seemed to like that.

Webmaster:  Cheryl Opsal

Discussion on 2 Club.  Cheryl took over from Barb Haley, when Barb ordered pins and bag tags she paid for items. It was decided that we would budget a small amount of money to have bag tags in stock for those who qualify for the 2 Club. According to the rules of 2 Club, any hole is eligible if a two is scored on any hole. It was voted on by Board to make 2 Club part of QCLGA and $50 will be budgeted for bag tags to have on hand. Best Score ever to be added to website for play only on league day per rules on Website.  Instructions on what can be added to Website to be given to Cheryl by Jacquie.

Birdies/Ringers/Chip-Ins:  Kris Weinberg

RBC’s are going fine.  As of the 5/9 playday, we have 63 birdies and 94 chip-ins.  Cheryl Opsal has been able to get complete Ringer stats now on the website instead of just totals.

Hole-in-One Club:  Jacquie for Cheryl Collyer

Karen Callen got a HIO at Canoa Ranch. Since she is a member of both QCLGA and Canoa Ranch, it is unclear who initiates the HIO certificate. Certificate to be presented at next available meeting with acknowledgement at final annual meeting.

Membership: Ronnee Epstein

We have three new members who joined QCLGA since our last Board Meeting, Barbara Gottas, Hilary Wade, and Sung Whitehead.  There was discussion on how we can get new members interested in playing in ladies day events. In the last 5 months cards have been sent to Terri Erickson, Linda Brackett, Mickey Zimny, Sherry Morris, Carol Brett, Bonnie Anderson, Fran Walker, Bonny Wilcox, and Mary Lynne Fischer to let them know we are thinking of them.

AWGA/SDWGA: Roz Harrison

Roz brought up information on numerous golf events coming up.  She will post them on the bulletin boards.

Publicity:  Terri Erickson (written report)

Received the HIO certificate for Karen Callen from AWGA this week. Continue to work on photos for membership directory. Have a list of 6 at this time.

Interclub:  Cathy Nelms (written report)

After a long wait, the team shirts are now in the Pro Shop.  You can now pay with your winnings, gift cards Robson card, credit card, check or cash.  No check to QCLGA as previously requested.  The price is $37 or $40.35 depending upon the size.  The price already includes tax. Please pick-up your shirt as soon as possible, as the Pro Shop is making special accommodations to assist us in this distribution.  Thanks to Linda Klaus and thanks for your patience waiting for the shirts.

There was discussion on Interclub scoring thru Golf Genius.

Junior Golf:  Jacquie Owens for Jan Delcour

Jan has been trying to get a response from Walden Grove and not having much luck.  We have about $1,300.00 in account for Junior Golf.  Suggestion to contact Marvol for ideas on setting something up thru her.  If anyone has any other suggestions or ideas, please contact Jan or Jacquie.  We will revisit this again in August.

OLD BUSINESS

Peg received a check for the Putter event in lunch box and gave to Sandi.  All checks should be made to QCLP.

NEW BUSINESS

Jacquie received information and an invitation to join Kachina league.  We would be required to host an event which makes it difficult since we are not a private course.  Bonny said this was looked at previously and was not a possibility for our club.  More information is required at this time.

At general meeting, Roz will announce winners of Telegraph Tournament.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion to Adjourn the General Meeting was made by Bonny Wilcox and seconded by Mary Campbell-Jones.  Motion passed and meeting was adjourned at 4:55 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Absent: Dian Simmons, Sandi Hrovatin, Chris Gould, Kris Weinberg, Cheryl Collyer and Jan Delcour.

EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORTS

President:  Jacquie Owens

The Member/Guest Committee are up and running smoothly under the direction of Debbie Scott.  They are currently working on meal selections with a Mardi Gras theme and have set a firm budget with Food and Beverage of $5500.  Flyers are in the Pro Shop and have been sent via Mailchimp as a special News Blast.  The team is seeking door prize donations from the community.  Additionally, they have received rounds of golf from other courses. Two golf bags for the raffle were donated by Joel and Debbie.

Vice President:  Peg Avent

Lunch for General meeting, currently we have 18 reservations and we require 30 for lunch.  Payment is due Friday February 22 noon.  ACTIONS:  Bonny will include a reminder in the email to members (regarding cancelation of Thursday golf 2/21) and Jacquie will include a message in the weekly News Blast. Peg will invite Joel unless we do not meet the required number of reservations at which time the meal will be canceled (meeting will still take place).

Secretary:  Dian Simmons

No Report

Treasurer:  Sandi Hrovatin

Budget report was sent to board and approved via email.

Past President/Robson Challenge: Chris Gould

Names of ladies who do not want to be followed for qualifying are being taken, currently eight ladies do not want to be tracked.

Tournament Chair:  Bonny Wilcox

  • 75 players participated in the GJWTHF Event.  Everyone I spoke with seemed to have a good time and really enjoyed the lunch.
  • One-day Partner RR Match Play went well.  The one-day individual Match Play event was cancelled since we had an odd number of players.  Additionally, due to the chance of rain additional cancellations may occur resulting in the need to cancel Individual Match Play.
  • Conditions of Competition have been sent out for the President’s Cup starting February 19.  Currently we have 28 participants.  Last year event was a 36 hole event because the first round was cancelled due to weather.  49 players started the event, 40 completed both rounds.
  • Partner RR Match Play event starts March 21.  Second round will be a 12:45 SG on March 26 – trade date with QCMGA – because Duffers need all three nines in the a.m.  Conditions of Competition will be sent out February 21.
  • We need to discuss outcome of survey and how we are going to handle the loss of trade days should we change our three day events to two day events.  Also, Match Play cannot be conducted in less than three days whether it be in the round robin format or the match play tree format.  So those events will have to be cancelled and replaced with something else.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Handicap: Nancy Hoppe

No report.

Rules & Regulations: Mary Campbell-Jones

The QCMGA requested input regarding the following local rules:

  • A potential local rule E-5.  After discussion it was decided that it would be less confusing and no impact on handicaps to proceed under “stroke and distance” rather than initiate a local rule (which would require approval by the club pro e.g. Joel.) (attached)
  • Red stakes along RR 4 and 9, Q4 and red paint along the cart path indicating a penalty area was discussed, and determined to retain the stakes and no to the red paint.

Webmaster:  Cheryl Opsal

Cheryl is doing an awesome job updating the QCLGA Website!  The following was presented for input:

  • There is an issue with interfacing Mac vs. PC to the website.  This has required additional reformatting of items sent to Cheryl for posting.  All were in agreement that Cheryl can reformat as needed to make posting look professional.
  • Posting of minutes of both executive and general meeting minutes.  ACTIONMinutes will be circulated to Board and Committee Chairs for additional input.  Once additions/corrections are made, the minutes will be posted as a draft. Once approved at the meetings, any changes will be made and minutes will be posted as final.
  • Posting of calendar: Cathy Nelms has created a postable calendar. It was felt that having the calendar of the website was good promotion for the association (and potential members.) ACTION:  Cheryl will forward the calendar and a disclaimer will be added to “check Golf Genius for all updates.”
  • Updates on home page: Are all the updates needed on the home page of the website? It was determined that the previous month’s updates can be deleted.
  • Membership application is outdated. ACTIONRonnee will send Cheryl the updated version for posting on website.

Birdies/Ringers/Chip-Ins:  Kris Weinberg

For RBCs, through the 2/14 play day, there are 21 Birdies and 53 Chip-Ins.

  • Terri will request information from editor as to why there is limited QCLGA information in the news.
  • An article regarding the President’s Cup will be submitted for the April Quail Creek Crossing.
  • A photo of the Mardi Gras Committee will be submitted.

MINUTES OF QCLGA BOARD MEETING

JANUARY 9, 2019

KINO CONFERENCE CENTER 3:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 3:07 P.M. by President Jacquie Owens.  A Motion to accept the Minutes of the General Meeting from November 15th, 2018, as posted on the QCLGA Website was made by Peg Avent and seconded by Bonny Wilcox.  Motion passed and Minutes were approved.

EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORTS

President:  Jacquie Owens

  • Welcome to all the new board members and thank you for stepping forward.
  • Jacquie has been working on the job descriptions and would appreciate each board or committee member to review the appropriate paperwork and respond as necessary.
  • Committee chair persons were accepted with addition of Roz Harrison as AGA/SDGA approved and seconded. A new sheet will be sent to all board and committee members.
  • A survey has been prepared to send to all members, a box with be set up in Pro Shop computer room for members to return by January 24th, 2019.
  • Green Committee Update:coming forward with more communication is encouraged and all meeting are open to all members. Jacquie is pipeline so any suggestions, please forward to her.

Vice President:  Peg Avent

  • Having communication difficulties with event staff at Madera. It was suggested to try and contact Patricia who is Daniel’s assistant. We have Copper Room reserved after golf on the 31st with general meeting. After problems we had last year, Peg is going to look into possibly having chili and cornbread or possibly pizza in lieu of appetizers. That would eliminate having to pay the $50.00 for the bartender as long as we have 40 people. If we don’t have meeting on the 31st we would need to have a general meeting sometime later in the year.Executive board will make final decision based on findings from Peg.

Secretary:  Dian Simmons

  • Thank you to all for your patience with different operating systems.

Treasurer:  Sandi Hrovatin

  • Sandi Hrovatin has done final audit with Pam Campbell. She has all the books and has set up a new bank account and deleted 3 accounts to incorporate into one. Also Sandi has set up a new Federal ID number. Waiting for a check from AWGA. No service fees with this account thru BMO Harris unless we exceed 200 transactions per month. This account will have on line capacity and a debit card.

Past President/Robson Challenge: Chris Gould

  • The Robson Challenge in 2019 will be hosted by the Robson Communities of Mountain View/Preserve, North of Tucson, on Wednesday November 13, 2019. This event again lands right in the middle of our three day Club Championship. (Nov 7th, 12th and 14th).
  • Due to cost increases (ie – food) the individual cost has been increased to $60.00 per each of the 12 participating team members. In the past, our club has contributed $35.00 per player, which in 2018 left our player’s portion at $15.00. At the last event, held at Saddlebrook Ranch, we confirmed that no other club pays towards the players cost. Therefore, some clubs have had issues with filling a team. We may need to discuss the amount our clubs continued financial support. It was suggested that we increase the club portion, but Chris disagrees.
  • For qualifying purposes we need to gather the names of our members who wish to have their scores followed throughout the four qualifying rounds. We can bring this up at the January 31st meeting, send an email, and publish the information in the News Blast.
  • Since we had to cancel our first qualifying round on January 3rd, we should select an additional date, which has scheduled for January 17th during the NET O.N.E.S. round. Currently, we have Feb 12th, April 25th and May 30th as the additional qualifier rounds. Qualifying rounds were reduced from six in 2018 to four in 2019. Only two of four dates are required to qualify. We need to know how many people are interested as they need to be tracked to qualify.

  • Determine dates for 2020, room reservations are due by March 1st, watch for requests in What’s Happening
  • Working on 2020 Calendar since we must have our room reservations in by March. Will await results of survey to complete and meet with QCMGA to work out our trade dates.
  • Sent out entry forms for GJWTHF event scheduled for January 24 – so far only 18- 18 hole entries, and 6- 9 hole entries. Have asked the 9ers and the putters to give me their entries each Friday so I can manually enter those players. Need even number to run the tournament.

  • First event of 2019 cancelled because of course closure.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Handicap:  Nancy Hoppe

  • There was a problem with GHIN and dues. GHIN takes off players until dues are paid. Diligence is required to make sure we have current information on players. Nancy has most improved pins and need to make a decision on new pins. Bonnie asked if we could get ball markers in lieu of pins. Nancy will look into it since we have until November for decision.

Rules & Regulations:  Mary Campbell-Jones

  • Rules books are available for distribution. Mary had a quick reference handout with the 20 Most Important changes that will be put in Blast. Jacquie announced that Joel has ordered more rules books for Pro Shop.

Webmaster:  Cheryl Opsal

  • Cheryl is having problems with operating system compatibility. There seems to be a lot in website that is not necessary. There are costs involved for website, approximately $315 is what we are paying. Jacquie requested that we look at Duffers website to see if it would be a better choice for us. Cheryl would like to get to know this system first, so she requests we give her some time.

Birdies/Ringers/Chip-Ins:  Kris Weinberg

  • We have 84 members which is six more members than this past year.
  • So far this year, through the December 27 play day, we’ve had 8 Birdies and 31 Chip-Ins.
  • It’s not too late to join RBCs for 2019. If you’re interested, just give your $18 check to Treasurer Sandi Hrovatin and she will notify me.
  • Also, a couple of scorecard reminders…

                        – On the Backup scorecards, for Birdies or Chip-Ins, please remember to CIRCLE the score AND draw a line to the margin and note if it is a Birdie and/or Chip-In.

                        – Please DO NOT use slashes and then write more than one number in a box.

  • Posting Chip Ins and Birdies monthly but wondering if Ringers need to be posted every month. The format is too large 70 Kilobytes, that is one problem that website is having, not enough columns. We will bring this back for discussion at a later date.

Hole-in-One Club:  Cheryl Collyer

  • Cheryl has a total of 67 members for the Hole-in-One club.

Membership: Ronnee Epstein/Beth Davis

  • Four new members: Tanya Willey, Judi Olsen, Theresa Stein, Therese Fay and Lin Sanford.

                        –  Pick up new member application/check and give to Treasurer

                        –  Send email to designated committee members
                        –  Meet with new member and distribute Welcome Packet, along with Rules
                        –  Find Mentor for new member. The possibility of putting a new person with someone from hospitality would be a good idea.
                        –  Roz felt it was a good idea and she felt very thankful that Peg stepped up as her mentor.
                        –  Send Get Well Cards and Sympathy Cards when needed, it was noted that Terri Erickson had a health issue. She is back from hospital and doing well.
                        –  Update application folder at Madera
                        –  Keep brochures current in pro shop and bathrooms

  • Application for membership has been updated for distribution.

  • Quail Creek is captain of the Interclub Captains and winter meeting is held on January 29th, 2019. Cheryl put Interclub dates on website.
  • Shirts will not be called Interclub shirts – will now be called Team Shirts.

Junior Golf: Jan Delcour

  • Jan has been working to contact Walden Grove Golf coach. There was discussion regarding where the money really goes due to amateur status. Kathy Stotz no longer wishes to be involved in Junior Golf, garage sale no longer makes very much.

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Cheryl Opsal has taken over 2 club from Barb Haley and has all the pins, ball markers and bag tags. They are $6.00 each. Several members have requested buying bag tags. It has been requested that Cheryl bring some to the meeting on the 31st and see if we can sell some of them.
